هذه المكتبة العربية التي كانت منار الثقافة الإنسانية دهرًا طويلًا، ولا تزال تشع من نورها وضيائها على جنبات الدنيا، وتتغلغل تغلغلًا عميقًا في زوايا الحضارات على شتى أصولها. هذه المكتبة لم تلق بعد ما تستوجب من عناية.
فقد رأيت أن همة الناشرين المحققين تتجه في أغلب ما تتجه إلى المخطوطات ذات الشهرة الظاهرة، وإلى ما جل مقداره من كتب السلف، مغفلين في أكثر الأمر هذه الرسائل الصغيرة.
فصح مني العزم على ان أكشف عن طائفة من هذه الكتب الصغيرة غطاءها، وأقدم منها إلى جمهرة الباحثين مادة نادرة. وأن أجعل هذا في مجموعات متتالية متسلسلة الأرقام والصفحات. وسيتكون من كل أربع مجموعات مجلد يقع في نحو خمسمائة صفحة، تنتهي بفهرس عام لما فيها من الرسائل.
واحتوت المجموعة الأولى على [الرسالة المصرية لأبي الصلت أمية بن عبد العزيز الأندلسي، كتاب المردفات من قريش لأبي الحسن بن علي بن محمد المدائني، كتاب من نسب إلى أمه من الشعراء صنعه محمد بن حبيب، تحفة الأبيه فيمن نسب إلى غير أبيه لمجد الدين محمد بن يعقوب بن محمد الفيروز أبادي]، والمجموعة الثانية على[كتاب النيروز لأبي الحسين أحمد بن فارس، الرسالة النوروزية للرئيس أبي علي الحسن بن عبد الله بن سينا، ذكر ما جاء في النوروز وأحكامه مما فسره بطليموس الحكيم ووجده عن علم دانيال، حكمة الإشراق إلى كتاب الآفاق لمحمد مرتضى الحسيني الزبيدي، كتاب أسماء المغتالين من الأشراف في الجاهلية والإسلام لمحمد بن حبيب، كتاب كنى الشعراء ومن غلبت كنيته على اسمه لمحمد بن حبيب، كتاب ألقاب الشعراء ومن يعرف منهم بأمه لمحمد بن حبيب، كتاب العققة والبررة لأبي عبيدة معمر بن المثنى، كتاب أسماء جبال تهامة وسكانها لعرام بن الأصبغ].
