في هذا الكتاب، يعالج الكاتب الوضع الإسلامي في روسيا من جوانب متعددة، الوضع الإسلامي في المرحلة الجديدة التي تلت المرحلة السوفييتية كوجود دبت فيه الحيوية من جديد، وكذلك العلاقة الداخلية فيما بين المجموعات الإسلامية وتنظيماتها بتلويناتها المختلفة وتبعاً لمناطق تواجدها، ومن ثم يعرج الكاتب على العلاقة المتشابكة بين المجموعات الإسلامية وبين التشكيلات الإجتماعية والدينية الأخرى، تنافراً أو تقارباً، إضافة إلى العلاقة مع السلطة السياسية والإدارية على المستويات كافة.
كما يقدم رؤية التنويعات الإجتماعية والفكرية والسياسية للإسلام سلباً وإيجاباً، بل وكيف تطرح موضوعة المساواة وإنعدامها مع الديانة الكبرى المسيحية.
ويلمح إلى التساؤلات حول ما يمكن أن يتمخض عن تطور الإسلام في روسيا وإنعكاسه على روسيا المستقبل، وبالأخص التزايد العددي المميز للمسلمين سواء أكان بكثرة الولادات أو الهجرة (المسلمين) من الخارج إلى الداخل، ويكرس الكاتب فصلاً يتعلق بالإسلام والسياسة الروسية الخارجية المتعلقة بالدول والمنظمات الإسلامية الخارجية.
لعله الكتاب الأول الذي يغطي المساحة الأكبر للوضع الإسلامي في روسيا.
