نادرة هي المصادر الأدبية التي أرخت لعصري محمد علي باشا الكبير وإبراهيم باشا، وبين يديك أحد هذه المصادر النادرة وهو كتاب "المناقب المصطفوية والمآثر المحمدية العلوية"، لإسكندر بن يعقوب أغا أبكاريوس. ومن الواضح أن أبكاريوس استقى مادته عن الباشا وولده من خلال والده الذي كان صديقاً مقرباً من إبراهيم باشا، وكذا بعض الروايات الشفهية التي استقاها من أعيان الشام وأيضاً بعض الضباط الشوام الذين رافقوا إبراهيم باشا في حملاته على الشام والأناضول. كما كان المؤلف واسع الإطلاع على الوثائق الرسمية، خاصة تلك التي تتعلق بالبلاغات العسكرية، وموقف إبراهيم باشا الحربي على الأرض، ونشرات الجيش المصري الدورية، هذا إلى جانب تلك الوثائق المتعلقة بمراسلات محمد علي باشا مع دول أوروبا خاصة ما يتعلق منها بموقفه من الباب العالي بعد نجاحه في فتح عكا وضم الشام إلى مصر.
