هاتان شعبتان من شعب الإيمان الأولى ركن من أركان الإسلام تتحدث عن فريضة الصيام, والثانية الاعتكاف في العشر الأواخر من رمضان وغيره. حيث يعتبر الصوم من أعظم أركان الدين, وأوثق قوانين الشرع المتين, به قهر النفس الأمارة بالسوء, وأنه مركب من أعمال القلب, ومن المنع عن المآكل والمشارب والمناكح عامة يومه, وهو من أجمل الخصال, غير أن أشق التكاليف على النفوس. فاقتضت الحكمة الإلهية أن يبدأ في التكاليف بالأخف, وهو الصلاة تمريناً للمكلف ورياضة له, ثم يثني بالوسط, وهو الزكاة, ويثلث بالأشق وهو الصوم, وإليه وقعت الإشارة في مقام المدح الترتيب, قال تعالى: ( والخاشعين والخاشعات والمتصدقين والمتصدقات والصائمين والصائمات).
