تدور أحداث القصة عن سعد وسعيد اللذين يعيشان في منزل واحد، لكنهما لا يلتقيان مطلقًا، لأن أحدهما- ساعي بريد- يعمل طوال النهار، في حين يعمل الآخر- وهو حارس ليلي- طوال الليل، تسير حياتهما على ما يرام إلى أن يأتي يوم يضطران فيه إلى البقاء في المنزل معًا لإصابتهما بنزلة برد شديدة، وأخيرًا يتعرف أحدهما على الآخر. يكتشف سعد وسعيد أن لديهما أذواقًا وعادات مختلفة، وتحدث العديد من المواقف التي لا يتفقان فيها على شيء من طعام أو شراب أو مشاهدة شيء في التلفاز حتى يظن كل منهما أن الحياة بعيدًا عن الآخر أفضل، لكنهما أيضًا يشتركان في الاستمتاع بشيء واحد- الموسيقى- وهو ما سيساعدهما على تقبل أي خلافات؛ فالموسيقى تعني الصداقة والحرية، فذات يوم استمعا إلى أغنية الآن بعد أن رحل صديقي، يا ليت، أنت هديتي وأنا أحتاج إليك، لا أدري ماذا أفعل فالأكل والقراءة واللعب لا تجدي نفعًا، لا شيء يعوضني عنك، ليتك تعود يا صديقى يا ليت، وفجأة بدأ سعد وسعيد يرددان الأغنية وقد وجدا أخيرًا شيئًا يستمتعان به معاً وشعرا بسعادة بالغة بعد أن ظنا أن كلًا منهما يستمتع بالشكوى ومنذ ذلك اليوم وكل منهما يعود إلى المنزل مبكرًا ليستمتعا بالغناء والسماع إلى الموسيقى الساحرة وفي أيام العطلات يذهبان في رحلة إلى الريف ويأخذان المذياع ويغنيان.
