«توماس» و«جاسبار» صديقان حميمان يافِعان لا يفترِقان، الاثنان في سن الحادية عشر من عُمرهما ويدرُسان معاً في القسم السادس بإحدى المَدارس الإعدادية بباريس.اختارا لِقضاءِ عطلتهما الصيفيةِ برنامجاً لا يخلو من طرافة يتعرَّفا من خلاله على النباتات، ويمارِسا لعبة كرة القدم». «توماس» وجدَ في البرنامجِ مصدرَ سعادةٍ لا تُوصف، إذ سيتسنَّى له أن يتعرّف على النباتات مُزاولاً بذلك نشاطَه الأثير وهوايته المفضَّلة. غير أن الولدَين ما إن وصلا إلى مكان قضاء العطلة بإحدى القُرى الواقعةِ جنوبَ فرنسا حتى وجدا أن حريقاً اندلَع فدمَّر جزءاً من قصر السيد «دي بيريهوراد» وهو المكان المخصص لإقامتهما، وقد جعلت هذه الحادثة سكانَ القصر يتصرفون بغرابة . فهناك «ماريا» الطباخة التي دأبتْ على الاشتغال في حديقة العطور بعنايةٍ فائقة، وهناك «جوزيف»، ذلك التقني الأخرق ذو الطبع الغريب الذي راح يلقِّنُهما كيفية استخلاص العطور من النباتات، ثم هناك «الأنف»، وهو السيد «دي بيريهوراد» الذي بيَّن لهما أهم مبادئ صناعة العطور.وسرعانَ ما أخذ «توماس» وصاحبُه يتحرَّيان ويستقصيانِ حول أصل هذه «الحادثة»: تُرى من المستفيد من الجريمة؟ لماذا هذه الغرابة في طِباع أهل القصر وتصرُّفاتهم؟ تُرى ما هي تلك التركيبة العجيبة التي يريد الجميع من «توماس» أن يكشِف سِرَّها؟ تُرى ما سِرُّ الحبَق التي يحلو للجميع أن يتهامَس بشأنه؟. أما جدُّ لوكا فهو رجلٌ شغوفٌ منذ شبابه بجمع كل ما يتعلّق بالفضاء. وفي حكايةٍ مشوقةٍ سوف يتمكّن حفيده من الحصول على التوقيع الوحيد الذي قام به إدوارد ك. في حياته، ويكتشف، في أثناء ذلك، محاولة المافيا الصينية استغلال ذلك التوقيع.
