وُلد مارسيل إيميه في مقاطعة يون عام 1902، وأمضى يفاعته في منطقة الجورا، وهو إقليم غني بالغابات والمستنقعات والمراعي، التحق عام 1923 بكليّة الطبّ في باريس.
مارسَ حينها مهناً مختلفة: صحافياً، موظفاً في مصرف، بائعاً جوالاً، ممثّل كومبارس في السينما، قبل أن ينشر روايته الأولى برولبوا، وبعد ذلك أتاح له نجاح روايته الحصان الأخضر (1933) أن يتفرّغ تماماً للأدب.
تمزجُ أعماله بين العجيب واليومي، مسبغةً على العالم نظرة ممتعة، وتضمُّ أكثر من ثلاثين رواية ومسرحية والعديد من الحكايات والقصص، اقتبست السينما عدداً من نصوصه، توفي مارسيل إيميه عام 1967.
