يظل الموقف من المرأة في أغلب الأحيان الراسب القار في العقل الباطن الذي يكشف عن مظهر التقدم وجوهر التخلف لدى المثقفين، ويعري التناقض والإزدواجية داخل الكثيرين، وقد جاءت فكرة مهرجان المراة السودانية الأول ضمن هذا السياق، يحاول مركز الدراسات السودانية أن يكون الثامن من مارس كل عام، مناسبة للإحتفال بإنجازات المرأة والتفاكر حول تطلعاتها المستقبلية، وقد جاء الاحتفال هذا العام مختلفاً وحاول المركز أن يخرج عن المعالجات النمطية وأن تختلف المجموعات المستهدفة، فقد تعددت أشكال النشاط: ورش عمل، لقاءات فكرية وندوة كبرى بالإضافة للإبداع النسائي من موسيقى وشعر ورسم، وفي نفس الوقت كان للمرأة في المناطق الهامشية أو الطرفية نصيب من النشاط، حيث كانت "جبرونا" و"الحاج يوسف" ز"دار السلام" مناطق اهتمام خاص، وبعد انتهاء المهرجان برز التساؤل: هل تبقى شئ لم نبحثه عن المرأة السودانية؟.
