يتناول هذا الكتاب بصورة مباشرة مسيرة وأنشطة قوة عسكرية صغيرة، عملت في نطاق المنطقة التي كانت تعرف بالإمارات المتصالحة على سواحل الخليج العربي.
ويقدم هذا الكتاب الذي تم إعداده في صيغة مفكرة، سرداً للسنوات العشر الأولى من تأريخ هذه القوة، حيث يبدأ بوصف تفصيلي لكيفية تشكيلها في عام 1950. وكانت مهمة هذه القوة حماية حدود وشعب الإمارات التي تتكون منها دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة الآن، ضد الاعتداءات الخارجية في ذلك الوقت. ويؤرخ الكتاب للأحداث العديدة التي تعاملت معها قوة ساحل عمان وكشافة ساحل عمان، طبقاً للتسلسل الزمني، شاملة الحصار الذي ضرب على واحة البريمي بالإضافة إلى المردين الأول والثاني في عمان.
وقد عمل المؤلف مع قوة ساحل عمان وكشافة ساحل عمان حتى عام 1957، لذا، نجد أن سرده التفصيلي لأنشطة هاتين القوتين يمتزج مع بعض التعليقات والملاحظات الشخصية، حول الخلفية السياسية التي جرت عليها هذه الأحداث، ووزارتي الخارجية والحربية البريطانية البعيدتين للغاية عن واقع الحياة في المنطقة آنذاك، ثم الأحداث الجارية حينها في الشرق الأوسط، والعلاقات مع شيوخ المنطقة. وتضمن الكتاب حكايات حول تفاصيل الحياة اليومية التي عاشتها قوة تخدم في الصحراء، تقدم إضاءات حول الجانب الآخر من الخدمة العسكرية، بدءاً من كيفية مكافحة الحشرات في أسرة النوم، وانتهاء بالأحداث الكبرى التي جرت في المنطقة.
إن هذا السرد التاريخي المتميزة لمسيرة هذه الوحدة العسكرية المتفردة -التي اشتهرت برمز النداء اللاسلكي الذي عرفت به وهو "تو ألفا ليما"- جاء نتيجة بحث مسهب في التفاصيل ومدعم بوثائق وخرائط شاملة ومستندات رسمية وعدد من الصور الفوتوغرافية التي صورها الكاتب نفسه. ونأمل أن يحيي هذا الكتاب الكثير من الذكريات ويوفر سجلاً شاملاً ورائعاً للمهتمين بالتاريخ العسكري وبشؤون منطقة الخليج العربي والعالم العربي.
