يعد كتاب "إختصار القدح المعلى في التاريخ المحلي" لمؤلفه إبن سعيد أبي الحسن علي بن موسى، من كتب التراجم التي تجمع أدباء عصر المؤلف (610ه685ه) . جاء الكتاب من تحقيق الأستاذ إبراهيم الأبياري الذي قدم له بنبذة تشير إلى اختلاف المؤرخين في زمن الكتاب وإلى من يسند وتشابه محتواه مع كتب أخرى في هذا الباب كنشوة الطرب وكتب أخرى. يقول: نلاحظ أن "القدح" مقصود فيه إلى جمع رجالات الأدب، لم يُقصد فيه إلى غيرهم. وإلى هذا تشير المقدمة حيث تقول: "من أخبار أدباء عصرنا هذا ومن عنه يؤخذ وإليه يسند، مكللة بشذور النثر، موشحة بنفيس الشعر" يسوق المؤلف بين يدي كل ترجمة نبذة لا تمعن في التاريخ، ولكن تمهد لشيء من النثر ولآخر من الشعر.
ولهذا فالكتاب هو اختصار القدح "لا "القدح نفسه" وقد اعتمد في تحقيقه مخطوطة باريس ومخطوطة تونس، والتي قدم الكتاب صوراً أرشيفية فوتوغرافية عنها. تبدأ بمقدمة المؤلف: "فهذه نبذة خاقانية المسلك والمقصد، من أخبار أدباء عصرنا هذا ومن عنه يؤخذ وإليه يُسند؛ مكللة بشذور النثر، موشحة بنفيس الشعر، تعبق كنفح السحر إلى مثل أخبارها يصبو الحليم، ولفضلها يقع التسليم، وبإنشادها يطرب الكريم، ولعذوبة مساغها يرغب عن كأسه النديم، انتخبها بقصد الإختصار ..." إلى آخر الكلام.
هذا، وقد رتب المؤلف (تراجم) أدباء عصره ترتيباً ألفبائياً (مرتبة على حروف الهجاء) . ومن الأدباء الذين يذكر الكتاب: إبن سعيد أبو الحسن علي بن أبي عمران، أبو العباس الغساني أحمد بن إبراهيم، أبو عثمان سعيد بن حكم بن عمر، أبو المطرف أحمد بن عبد الله بن عميرة (...) وانتهاءً بـ "هارون بن عبد الله بن هارون".
