هذه المذكرات التي أكتبها، هي كناية عن ذكريات، بالاستناد إلى بعض المصادر، وقد عدت إليها بعد أن أصبح عندي من العمر حوالى الـ 71 عاماً، هذه العودة كانت بناء على طلب من زوجتي لطيفة وأولادي الثلاثة: ماري، وكميل، وآمال التي كانت أشدّهم إلحاحاً في الطلب. وبعد تفكير استغرق حوالى السنة، تغلبت عليّ فكرة الكتابة التي بدأتها في مطلع العام 1948. ومن الطبيعي أن تكون هذه المذكرات ناقصة وغير دقيقة كما أرغب، على اعتبار أن هناك قسماً هاماً من الحوادث التي أرويها غير منشورة في الكتب أو الصحف ولا في أي مصدر من المصادر للعودة إليها.
