لقد تطرق أبو الطيب في شعره إلى الإبل من مختلف الجوانب، فقد أشار إلى أوصافها، وذكر بعض ألوانها وأنسابها، ووصف طرق سيرها وعدوها، وبعض أنواع سلوكياتها، ولم يغفل حتى تراكيب بعض أجزاء أجسامها، كما أنه ذكر بعض مسميات أعمارها، وأعدادها، وأنواع أصواتها. وتطرق أيضاً إلى صبر الإبل على الجوع والعطش، وإلى حملها وإجهاضها وضروعها وألبانها، وإلى بعض الأمراض التي تصيبها، وكذلك بعض الأدوات المستخدمة في الإبل. ولم ينسَ أبو الطيب علاقة الإبل بالمرأة، وإلى دورها في السلم والحرب، كما أنه استخدمها كرمز ومثل في شعره. أما من ناحية الخيل فقد تطرق أبو الطيب إليها من مختلف الجوانب، حيث ذكر بعض أوصافها، وبعض أنسابها، وبعض ألوانها، وبعض أنواع طرق سيرها وجريها، وإلى بعض سلوكياتها المختلفة. وذكر ابو الطيب أيضاً أغلب أجزاء جسم الفرس، ومميزات كل جزء - عضو ٍ- ذكره. إضافة إلى ذلك فقد أشار أبو الطيب إلى بعض الأدوار المهمة التي تقوم بها الخيل في حالتي السلم والحرب.
