سؤال الهوية مؤرق ومتعب، وإن لم يجد التناول الصحيح والدقيق، سيساهم بلا شك في تدمير السودان، وسيكون له الأثر الأكبر في ذلك لا أقول ذلك جزافاً، ولكن عن تجارب عشناها مع زملاء وأصدقاء ورفقاء سلاح حملوا سلاحهم وهاجموا ليس الدولة فحسب، وإنما رفقاء سلاحهم وزملائهم، ودفعوا حياتهم ثمناً لذلك، من هنا جاءت فكرة هذا الكتاب أو بدايته أو دعنا نقل المدخل إليه، فحينما تشرع في تناول الهوية يندفع نحوك سيل من الأسئلة مثل: ما هي الهوية وماذا تعنيه؟ هل هي الأعراق والأصول والأجناس؟ هل هي الثقافات واللغات واللهجات؟ هل هي العادات والتقاليد والأعراف والمعتقدات؟ هل هي الأفراح التي تحققها الانتصارات الكبيرة أم هي الأحزان العميقة المشتركة التي تسببها الهزائم والإنكسارات؟ هل هي الوجدان بكل ما يشكله ويمثله؟ عشرات الأسئلة التي لا يتوقف تدفقها لأن المسألة كما قلت غايو في التعقيد والتشابك، على كل، في تبسيط أرجو أ، يكون غير مخل، وجدت أن الهوية هي كل ذلك، من أجل ذلك تفرعت قضية الهوية ليصبح لها وجهان، وجه هو التميز ووجه آخر هو الإنتماء ولا يمكن جدلياً الفصل بين الهوية والمواطنة ولذلك وجدت من المناسب أن تكون قضية الهوية مدخلاً لهذا الكتاب وتستحق أن يفرد لها الفصل الأول، أما الفصل الثاني فهو تقديم علم الجيوبولتيكا، يليه الفصل الثالث: مكونات القوة المادية للدولة، الرابع ظاهرة التدخلات العسكرية في شئون السياسة، والخامس نيفاشا تؤسس لسودان جديد، والسادس الترتيبات الأمنية، وأخيراً الفصل السابع نحو الجمهورية الجديدة.
