تطرح هذه الرواية موضوعاً لم تتناوله الرواية السعودية إلاّ بشكل محدود جداً، وهو هجرة قسم من أهالي نجد إلى جنوب العراق قبل أربعمائة سنة، وكيف عاشوا، وإلى أيّ حدّ تأثروا بمحيطهم، أو أثروا فيه، وما الأسباب التي دعتهم إلى ترك "الزبير" التي عاشوا فيها ردحاً من الزمن والعودة إلى بلد المنشأ والأصل.
وفي قالب روائي مشوِّق، تعرض هذه الرواية لحياة ثلاثة أشخاص من أهل مدينة الزبير في أواسط نشأتها قبل تسعين عاماً، بوصفهم نماذج تمثِّل مجموع الشرائح الإجتماعية من أهلها "النجادة"، بمستوياتهم المعاشية المتباينة: مؤذّن وصاحب بسيطة لبيع الخضروات، وسائق سيارة حمولة، امتلكها بعد جهد جهيد، وصاحب متجر لبيع المواد الغذائية والحبوب بالجملة والمفرد، وشخصيات الرواية الرئيسة هم أولاد أصحاب المهن المذكورة آنفاً.
