تعايش هذا الحيوان الوديع الأليف مع الإنسان منذ أكثر من عشرة آلاف سنة حسب ما تذكره المصادر العلمية الموثقة بالحفريات، وخدم البشر ولم ينل منهم إلا المذمة والضرب بالعصي لأي خطأ، ولو تتبعنا التاريخ لوجدناه خادماً مطيعاً للأنبياء وكثير من كبار شخصيات المجتمعات في كثير من بقاع العالم.
وقد أعال عوائل كثيرة من البشر بإستعماله في نقل البضائع والناس في تنقلاتهم وأسفارهم، حتى إن رجلاً في كردستان العراق (الأستاذ عمر كلول) أسس (حزب الحمير) سنة 1979م وكان ردد الجميل حين سأله رجال الإعلام عن الأمر، أجابهم إن حياة عائلتي دعمتها جهود (الحمار) لأن أباه كان ينقل عليه البضائع للتجار فيعيشون بمورد جهود حمارهم، ولا يزال الحزب فاعلاً ومركزه مدينة السليمانية شمال العراق، ويرأسه اليوم الأستاذ (حمه ناير) وقد نحت أحد الفنانين تمثالاً نصفياً لحمار يرتدي قميصاً وربطة عشق، والتمثال موجود في مدينة السليمانية أيضاً كما أخبرني الزميل الدكتور طاهر بابان، ونقل لي كل المعلومات أعلاه.
أما أول من تناول موضوع الرفق بالحيوان فهم فلاسفة اليونان ثم الفيلسوف الأوروبي ديكارت، وأول من فتن لزوم حمايتها فهو رجل إنجيزي اسمه مارتن وصار القانون يسمى بقانون مارتن سنة 1822م وكان هذا القانون خاصاً بالماشية، وفي سنة 1849م شمل القانون الحيوانات الألفية، وعلى إثر ذلك انتشر جمعيات الحماية والعناية بالحيوان في أمريكا وأوروبا، ومع أن للأنبياء وصايا بالرفق بالحيوان، إلا أن إحتقاره بانه غبي شائع في الكتب السماوية، وقد أورد العلامة الراغب الأصفهاني في كتابه المعروف (مفردات ألفاظ القرآن) ما نصه (ويُعبر عن الجاهل بذلك كقوله تعالى: ﴿كَمَثَلِ الْحِمَارِ يَحْمِلُ أَسْفَاراً﴾...
وقد حاولت المؤلفة أن تتقمص حمارها في القصة فأعطته من ذكائها، فصار يعمل المقالب فكان للقصة جمال وعذوبة حببتا الحمار (كديشون) للقارئ، بأي حال تذكرنا حيل ومقالب كديشون بحكايات الثعلبين (كليلة ودمنة) التي كتب ترجمتها الرائعة ابن المقفع.
