اهتم الباحث في كتابه هذا بمستقبل المملكة العربية السعودية من منطلق العمل على إستشراف أوضاع بلد محوري في الخليج، الشرق الأوسط وفي العالم أيضاً.
وقد حاولت الدراسة (أطروحة دكتوراه) التركيز على مدخلين هامين في عالمنا العربي هما محك التغير المتسارع الذي يجري في المنطقة وهما: الأمن القومي والإصلاح السياسي المرتبطين بشدة، إذ لا يمكن إقرار أحدهما دون التفكير في تبعات هذا الإقرار على المدخل الآخر.
وقد أكدت في نهايتها على وجوب السعي إلى المبادرة، من منطلق مقومات القوة لدى المملكة وعبر التوظيف الإستراتيجي لها، بلعب دور إقليمي بدلاً من السعي إلى الإنضواء تحت إحدى المظلات الأمنية المقترحة لقوى غير عربية وهي كلها مرتبطة بإستراتيجيات وبإدراكات أمنية بعيدة عن هموم المنطقة وإشكاليات الأمن فيها.
أما من جانب الإصلاح السياسي، فقد أكدت الدراسة على وجوب المبادرة بأجندة إصلاحية نابعة من ثقافة سياسية أصيلة ثم بإستراتيجية إصلاحية وطنية قبل أن تفلت خيوط المبادرة من أيدي متخذي القرار، علا غرار ما حدث في 2011 (الدراسة تم الإنتهاء من وضع سيناريوهاتها في نهاية 2010) في إطار ما يعرف الآن بالربيع العربي والذي عصف بجهود الإصلاح الوطني وطرح بشدة مسألة تواءم منطقتنا العربية الإسلامية مع إشكالية التغيير الديمقراطي.
