يتناول الكتاب انطباعات أمريكي اعتنق الإسلام، فيذكر تجربته وحياته الجديدة في الإسلام. وبداية تعرفه إلى الإسلام، والمراحل التي عاشها قبل اعتناقه للدين الجديد أيام المدرسة والجامعة ودراساته العليا ثم يورد أسئلة حول الكون والحياة والدين واعتراضاته الكثيرة حول بعض المعتقدات المسيحية، ثم بداية قراءته للقرآن وتعرفه بالمسلمين في أمريكا. ودخوله إلى المسجد أول مرة لمعرفة الإسلام. ونقاشاته مع المسلمين ثم نطقه بالشهادة.
بعد ذلك ينتقل إلى الحديث عن القرآن، وعلاقة الاستشراق به. وعلاقة المعتنق الغربي للإسلام وكيف يساعد القرآن الكريم على اعتناق الإسلام، وتحدث عن انتشار الإسلام في الغرب، والمؤلفين المسلمين الغربيين والمتعاطفين مع الإسلام. ويتناول بعض الكتابات الغربية حول القرآن، وترجمات القرآن الكريم، وعلاقة القرآن بالعهدين القديم والجديد، والقرآن والعلم الحديث.
وينتقل للحديث عن الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ويتناول شخصيته من وجهة نظر من أصبح مقتنعاً بالقرآن على أنه كلام الله، ويتحدث عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في القرآن الكريم، ثم تناول القرآن للأنبياء وتجسيده للحقيقة القائلة بأنهم أشخاص استثنائيون بالرغم من أنهم بشر. ثم يتناول الحديث عن السنة والسيرة النبوية. وشخصية الرسول في كتابات الاستشراق.
ثم ينتقل إلى مفهوم الأمة ومركزيته في الإسلام، ويتحدث عن الأسرة في الإسلام ويقارنها بالأسرة في أمريكا، ويتحدث عن الحلول التي وضعها الإسلام للمشكلات الأسرية، ثم يتناول بالحديث حقوق المرأة في الإسلام، وفي الثقافة الغربية ثم يتعرض للكتابات الغربية التي نقدت نظرة الإسلام للمرأة، ثم لباس المرأة وتعليمها والاختلاط. ويتحدث عن القانون والدولة والجهاد والإيمان والسلطة ويختتم بالحديث عن أهل الكتاب ونظرة الإسلام لهم.
