تأتي أهمية هذه الدراسة من كونها دراسة وثائقية تتعرض لأول مرة لأبعاد مسألة تعاطف ضباط الجيش المصري مع الألمان، من خلال ما توافر لدينا من وثائق ألمانية تنشر للمرة الأولى حول تلك المسألة، كما أنها تعالج بموضوعية محاولات الانحياز الفعلي التي قام بها بعض هؤلاء الضباط إلى القوات الألمانية في العلمين، وهي محاولات: الفريق عزيز المصري، والملازم أول طيار أحمد سعودي، وضابط الصف طيار محمد رضوان، وتكشف هذه الدراسة النقاب عما جرى على الجانب الألماني عندما قام هؤلاء الضباط بمحاولاتهم تلك، وموقف الألمان في شمال أفريقيا وبريلن منها، كما أنها تصحح ما ساد لدى البعض من اعتقاد أن عزيز المصري حاول الفرار من مصر من أجل مساعدة ثورة رشيد عالي الكيلاني، وتصحح أيضًا عددًا من الأخطاء التاريخية التي وقع فيها بعض من أشاروا في دراساتهم إلى محالات فرار هؤلاء الضباط.
وقد اعتمدنا في إعداد هذه الدراسة على المصادر الوثائقية، والمذكرات والذكريات الشخصية، والدراسات والمراجع لعدد وافر من الباحثين، الذين أشاروا بشكل أو بآخر إلى محاولات لجوء بعض الضباط المصريين إلى قوات المحور، كما أننا اطلعنا بقدر الإمكان على معظم ما كتب من قريب أو من بعيد حول ذلك الموضوع.
ويتكون هذا الكتاب من ثلاثة فصول وخاتمة هما كالتالي: (الفصل الأول: تعاطف ضباط الجيش المصري مع الألمان، الفصل الثاني: محاولة طيران أحمد سعودي إلى الألمان، الفصل الثالث: فرار محمد رضوان إلى الألمان).
