نظراً للأهمية الكبيرة التي تتمتع بها منطقة الخليج العربي وشبه الجزيرة العربية فقد قام المؤرخون والباحثون حديثاً بدراسة تاريخ تلك المنطقة ولكن الممعن للنظر يرى أن تلك الدراسات تركزت حول تاريخ الخليج العربي والمناطق الساحلية لشبه الجزيرة العربية بينما كانت شحيحة بالنسبة لتاريخ المناطق الداخلية ومنها بلاد نجد، فيبقى تاريخ تلك البلاد يشوبه الغموض وخاصة فيما يتعلق بعلاقتها بالدولة العثمانية التي كانت صاحبة النفوذ في المنطقة. لذلك عمد المؤلف على دراسة تاريخ نجد في الفترة الواقعة بين سنة (1309-1333ه / 1891-1914م)، باحثاً أحداثها وموضحاً موقف الدولة العثمانية منها ومن آل سعود في صراعهم مع آل الرشيد من أجل معرفة ما خفي من الحقائق التاريخية المتعلقة بها.
بدأ البحث بسنة (1309ه – 1891م) وهي السنة التي انهار فيها الحكم السعودي في نجد على يد آل الرشيد وخروج السعوديين منها باحثين عن مكان يلجأون إليه، ومحاولة الدولة العثمانية إعادتهم إليها ليكونوا نداً لآل الرشيد، وانتهى في سنة (1333ه – 1914م) وهي السنة التي اندلعت فيها الحرب العالمية الأولى وما تمخض عنها من تغيير للأوضاع في العالم، ومنها زوال الدولة العثمانية التي دخلت الحرب إلى جانب دول الوسط – مما أدى إلى التأثير في أوضاع شبه الجزيرة العربية بما فيها بلاد نجد.
