التجربة الإشتراكية في فنزولا مثيرة حقاً لأنها تحاول معالجة الأخطاء التي وقعت فيها الدول الإشتراكية سابقاً، كذلك تحاول إشراك الشعب بأكمله فيما أسمته "الديمقراطية التشاركية"، بحيث يكون الشعب سيد القرار في البلاد، فلا يكتفي بمنح صوته لممثلين عنه، يقدمون له برامجهم في أثناء الحملة الإنتخابية، ثم يغيبون عنه أربع سنوات فلا يكاد يعلم الشعب بما يفعلون في أثنائها.
هذا الكتاب وصف موضوعي لتجربة فنزويلا في تطبيق الإشتراكية والديمقراطية الشعبية مورداً ما لها وما عليها، وما استطاع الرئيس هوغو تشافيز عمله، وما إذا كان لتجربته في الحكم أن تستمر من بعده أو أن تنتكس، لكن القارئ لا يستطيع إلا أن يرى في الرئيس تشافيز واحداً من أعظم قادة العالم المعاصرين.
