"بائعة الحمام" هي قصة فتاة لا تعرف من تكون حقاً، فتاة وجدت نفسها بلا ماض تقوى به، أو حاضر تعيشه أو مستقبل تتطلع إليه، لم تعرف في حياتها أي معنى للأب أو الأقارب والعائلة .. لا تنتمي إلا لأم تزوجت في لحظة فقر وحاجة وربما حب، من رجل يكبرها بسنوات. كان زواجاً بعقد عرفي، وبعد شهور ترك الرجل والدتها وهي لا تزال في أحشاء أمها وذهب إلى غير رجعة.
وهكذا قدمت هدى للحياة، طفلة بلا إسم حقيقي تُعرف به، أو هوية واضحة، سجلتها والدتها بالإسم الأول لوالدها سليمان، فيما كان إسم عائلتها هو إسم عائلة جدتها لأمها "هدى سليمان البسطامي". إسم طالما شعرت هدى أنه لا يخصها، ولا يعبر عن هويتها. لم تتعلم الفتاة لافتقادها إلى أوراق ثبوتية، وعندما توفيت والدتها، أصبحت وحيدة لا سند لها، واتخذت من بيع الحمام مصدراً للرزق. تتوالى الأحداث في الرواية وتتعرف على الرسام "مختار" الذي يقرر رسمها في لوحة لموضوع مسابقة كبرى، يعرض على هدى الموضوع، ويعدها أنه سيدفع لها نصف مبلغ الجائزة في حال فازت اللوحة، وعندما بدأ برسمها بدأت الفتاة تروي قصة حياتها لمختار مع وعد منه أن تبقى سراً وتحاول نسيان الماضي وأن تحيا من جديد "كم كانت تشعر دوماً أن الله معها ويرعى خطاها، وما ارتباطها بمختار وهذا الإستقرار الذي تشعر به يملأ حياتها للمرة الأولى إلا توفيق من الله وفضل".
يقول الروائي عن هذه الرواية " .. من الأشياء الجميلة أن يستفيد الإنسان من أخطائه وتجاربه ويتعلم منها؛ ولكن من الأجمل أن يستفيد من تجارب الآخرين ويتعلم منها .. في هذا الكتاب اهدي لكم بعض المفاهيم والمبادىء التي تعلمتها من الحياة".
تتناول قصة طفلة تركها والدها في رحم والدتها، وعندما وُلدت وكبرت بدأت رحلة البحث عن والدها فكتبت رواية وصفت فيها حياتها ليتعرف عليها والدها من خلال قراءته للرواية..
