صوت إبداعي شعري وموسيقي مهم في خارطة الإبداع اللبناني، كما أنه مترجم أسهم في التعريف بثقافات ونتاجات عالمية معروفة، ترجم ثلاثة كتب لكلمة التابع لهيئة أبوظبي للسياحة والثقافة، وأصدر ثلاثة دواوين شعرية وهي “خيط بياض” و”حين سرب فراشات، اصطدم بزجاج النافذة” و”يساورني ظن أنهم ماتوا عطشى”.
وأصدر كتابه الشعري الرابع"محرمة السّاحر المطويّة" دار "النهضة العربية" كما له فيالترجمة كتاببعنوان"تحطيم الأسطورة" صادر عن دار "العبيكان" وأربعة كتب بعنوان "سلسلة الرّواد الإداريين فيالعالم"العمالقة" دار "العبيكان" وكتاب سيرة حياة بنازير بوتو"إبنة القدر" "شركة المطبوعات" وكتاب "أحمد بن حنبل وتشكّل المذهب الحنبلي"_الشركة العربية للأبحاث والتوثيق والنشر_بيروت_.
وهو صحافي عمل في معظم اللبنانية_النهار_الحياة_ السفير_المستقبل_ وله المئات من المقالات في النقد الأدبي والأبحاث السوسيولوجية, والفكرية والسياسية والفنية والموسيقية الغنائية.
كما عمل في المسرح ممثلاً وكاتباً وواضع الموسيقى التصويرية وكلمات الأغاني وغنّاها بصوته ولحّن للعديد من المطربات معه.

سلس غسان علم الدين في شعره. سلس وقلق معاً. يتحرك نصه كأنما من ماء. لكن من ماء متدفق، ومتكسر، وصاف، ومزبد، وقليل وفيه غزارة، صياد اللحظة، وأيضاً هو طريدها. أي إنه يعرف كيف يلتقط المادة الشعرية، وكيف يفلتها هنا على سجيتها، كما في فضاء، وكيف يشتغل عليها بالخيط والإبرة. الطريقتان معاً. لكنه حين يفلت المادة لا تتوعر، ولا تشق بقدر ما يتشظى سيرها. بقدر ما تكسر الأفقية التي تسم أحياناً شعر اللحيظات، أو المطولات(...) هذا التشظي من معانيه أنه يكسر البنية الخيطية التي تجري على سطح الأشياء، بوقع رتيب ملول.
هكذا يفعل الرسام عندما يلجأ إلى عناصر من داخل الرسم، كونها قد تنتمي إلى سواه: كالعين الفوتوغرافية، واللقطة السينمائية، والخلجة المسرحية.
هذه العناصر، إضافة إلى غنائية داخلية، تتناصر وتتآصر وتتواشج، فلا يكون كل منها على حدة، أو على انفعال، أو ليس هذا هو تحديد القصيدة: إخصاب النبرات واللهجات، والمواد المختلفة، على مساحة ممهورة ومصهورة ومدمجة؟
وعليه تختلط الحميمية بالتأملية، بالغنائية، بالبصرية، بالموضوعية في صورة شعرية كلية.
