لعل أهم ما أجتذبني في كتاب الصديق فريد زهران تلك الشجاعة في إعلان أنحيازه الفكري ومحاولة الحرص علي الموضوعية في نفس الوقت, رغم أن مجرد إعلان الكاتب لأنحيازه الفكري يعد من الناحية العلمية ضمان لموضوعيته حيث يثير ذلك الإعلان لدي القارئ المختلف تحفزاً محموداً للنقد والتنفيد وهو ما نحتاجه في الظروف الراهنة التي تمر بها بلادنا.
الكتاب -كما أعلن في كتابه- لا يقف عند حدود الأنحياز الفكري الواضح, بل يجمع إلي ذلك الأنحياز ممارسة سياسية عملية من موقعه الحزبي, وعادة ما يمثل الأنحياز السياسي المترجم إلي ممارسة سياسية عملية قيداً إضافياً علي السعي للنظرة الموضوعية, حيث كثيراً ما يقع الكاتب إذا فكر في طرح فكر مختلف في غواية التحسب من رفض رفاق دربه السياسي لفكرته إذا ما عبر عنها علناً, ونجاح الكاتب في أجتياز تلك العقبة الكبيرة أمر يحسب له دون شك كما يحسب لرفاق دربه أيضاً.
صعوبة ثالثة تعترض هذا النوع من التجمع لكتابات سابقة للمؤلف, وقد سبق لي شخصياً أن مررت بمثل ذلك المأزق الصعب حين أقدمت علي تجميع مجموعة من الكتابات تم إنجازها عبر سنوات وأشرت أنذاك إلي "أن ثمة ظاهرة تعاني منها حياتنا الفكرية كأشد ما تكون المعاناة, وخاصة كلما أقترب الفكر من مجال القضايا ذات الطابع السياسي, وأعني بهذه الظاهرة ما يمكن أن نطلق عليه -إذا ما شئنا تعبيراً مهذباً- " الأنتقائية".
