هذا الكتاب "شرح ما يقع فيه التصحيف والتحريف" لمؤلفه الحسن بن عبد الله، أبى أحمد العسكرى المتوفى سنة 382 هـ. وهو فى الأصل مخطوط، يقع فى مجلدين. ولعل هذا المخطوط هو الأصل الوحيد، فلم نعثر على أصل آخر للكتاب يمكن الرجوع إليه، كما لم نجد أية إشارة فى فهارس المخطوطات التى بين أيدينا إلى نسخة أخرى معتمدة تعتبر أصلا ثانيا نرجع إليه.
وقد استعنت على تحقيق مادة الكتاب بالمراجع الأصول من كتب اللغة والأدب والتاريخ ودواوين الشعراء والمعاجم اللغوية والجغرافية وغيرها مما أشرت إليه فى هوامش الصفحات أو فى آخر الكتاب، واستأنست بالمطبوع فى طبع الجزء الأول. وقد حرصت على ضبط النص والعناية بالشكل حتى يرتفع الإشكال، ويتحقق الغرض الذى من أجله ألف الكتاب. كما رأيت -والكتاب من أمهات المراجع اللغوية- أن أضيف إليه هوامش وتعليقات تكمل نقصا أو تفسر غريبا أو توضح غامضا. كذلك عنيت بالتعريف بكثير ممن وردت أسماؤهم فى الكتاب من اللغويين والنحاة والشعراء وغيرهم.
