يعد المنهج السايكولوجي من المناهج الحديثة نسبياً في تحليل ظاهرة الإبداع الفني، ويعد عالم الطب النفسي (فرويد) أول من تطرق لهذا المنهج في دراسته عن فنان عصر النهضة الإيطالي (ليوناردو دافنشي) والروائي الروسي (فيدور دستويفسكي) التي أسس من خلال نتائجها نظرته للإبداع بشكل عام.
ولم يبق فرويد وحده في ساحة التحليل النفسي، بل جاء بعده طلابه ومريدوه وغيرهم، ممن أسسوا وأسهموا في تحقيق مناهج وطرائق نقدية كثيرة مثل (ادلر) صاحب نظرية علم النفس الفردي ومركب النقص و(يونك) الذي جاء بنظرية اللاشعور الجمعي، وكثيرون غيرهم.
وفي المقابل كانت هناك المدرسة الإجتماعية التي سادت في الإتحاد السوفيتي (سابقاً) ودول المعسكر الإشتراكي في حينه، التي كانت تغزو كافة الظواهر والحالات النفسية لجذورها الإجتماعية والإقتصادية على وجه التحديد.
هذا الكتاب يشرح ذهنية المخرج المسرحي المعاصر وتشاكل حالات وبناء نفسي، الفكر بشكل مباشر وغير مباشر، وعياً ولا وعياً، على مجمل عمله الإبداعي، وانتج أعمالاً وعروضاً مسرحية مميزة في أبعادها الظاهرة والخفية لذلك ارتأت الباحثة أن تدرس هذا الوضع، لما يشكله من إشكالية معرفية وثقافية مهمة في حياتنا المسرحية.
