وهذا هو بالذات الصراع الذي يسعى جوهان ميشال إلى استكشافه في هذا الكتاب، الذي يكمن رهانه في تسليط الضوء على الطريقة التي أسهمت من جهة، في انبثاق العلوم الاجتماعية من التيارات المؤسّسة للفلسفة (الوضعانية، الذارائعية، الفينومينولوجيا…)، ومن جهة أخرى، في معارضة مناهج ومواضيع العلوم الاجتماعية لتلك المناهج والمواضيع التي تتبناها الفلسفة. ويطمح هذا الكتاب في الأخير إلى توضيح الأسلوب الذي يمكن من خلاله للعلوم الاجتماعية وللفلسفة، ضمن شروط معينة، القيام بتخصيب متبادل لبعضهما البعض.
