يعد موضوع الكتاب من أهم الموضوعات التي لاقت اهتماما كبيرا من قبل التربويون، نظرا لارتباطه بالتعلم وبنواتج التعلم التى تختلف باختلاف مدى قدرة المتعلم على إحداث ارتباطات حقيقية ومنطقية بين المعلومات الجديدة والمعلومات السابقة ليكون التعلم ايجابيا وذا معنى ، وقد اعتمدت التصورات الكيفية لمداخل الطلاب في التعلم ( Learning Approaches) على عده مداخل من أهمها المدخل الفينومينوجرافي( Phenomenography) وتصنيف سولو( SOLO Taxonomy) يهتم بالمدخل الفينومينوجرافي وبدراسة كيفية تكوين الناس لخبراتهم عن العالم الذي يحيط بهم واتجاهاتهم نحو معرفة مفهوم التعلم من خلال - أعين المتعلمين - وبتحليل استجابات الطلاب عن عدد من الأسئلة التي تدور حول المدة المتعلمة التي قاموا بدراستها أثناء أداء المهمة وفق خمسة مستويات نوعية لنواتج التعلم متدرجة من البسيط إلى المعقد، ومن المحسوس إلى المجرد.
قام كل من "بيجز وكولز" عام ۱۹۸۲بتطوير تصنيف جديد تحت مسمى " تصنيف سولو " ويقصد به " تركيب ناتج التعلم الملحوظ " الذي توصلا إليه من نتائج تحليل إجابات الطلاب عن بعض الأسئلة ، يتكون هذا التصنيف من خمسة مستويات هي كالآتي : ١. مستوى ما قبل التركيب . ٢. مستوى التركيب الأحادی . ٣. مستوى التركيب المتعدد . 4. مستوى العلاقتيه . 5. مستوى التجريد .
