الكتاب عبارة عن تجربة شخصية، كطفلة في الثامنة من العمر حين اكتشفت أنها "... هيدي اللي جايي من هؤلاء الشيعة من الجنوب..." إلى تلك الطالبة في السنة الأولى في كلية الإعلام، التي شاء لها القدر أن تشهد إجتياح القوات الإسرائيلية عام 1982 لمدينة صور وأن تكتب عنه وأن يصبح خطيبها مطلوباً لهذه القوات، بعدها العمل على تهريبه إلى بيروت، لتشهد أيضاً حصار بيروت وإحتياجها، تصاب برجلها إصابة بالغة على خطوط التماس في أرض اللاحد وتحاصر مع رفيقتها لأكثر من أربع ساعات وتشهدان واحداً من أطول وأعنف أيام الحصار.
تنتهي الحرب الإسرائيلية، فيما الحرب الأهلية تستعر، وميليشيات "الخندق الواحد" تتقاتل فيما بينها، وتضيق المساحة المتبقية من الوطن أكثر وأكثر...
يأتي بعدها السلام المنشود عام 1991 تفرح بأنها ستكون من فريق عمل تلفزيون لبنان الوطني لكل لبنان، تصاب سعدى بالخيبة والصدمة ومن خلال تجربة العمل تكتشف أن الحرب الأهلية لم تنته، بل اتخذت شكلاً جديداً حين تسلم قادة الميليشيات بالتعاون مع البليونير الجديد بالجملة وتقاسما السلطة وتحولت البلد إلى نهب ودعارة و...
المقاومة، نعم سعدى تحترم وتقدر شرف الدفاع عن الوطن...
لكن أن يستخدم هذا السلاح في بيروت؟؟؟ تقولن "إن الساكت عن الحق شيطان أخرس؟ حين تنهب بقايا الدولة ويسكت من اعتبر نفسه أنه حامي الوطن ولا يحمل مشروعاً وطنياً متكاملاً للطوائف الثمانية عشرة يتحول إلى شيطان أخرس، من يسكت عن ميليشيات الطوائف التي تنهب طائفتها، يصبح جزءاً من تحويل المواطن من الإلتزام بوطنه إلى الإلتزام بطائفته يصبح شيطاناً أخرساً.
تضيق مساحة الوطن الصغير أكثر وأكثر... تشعر أن لا مكانا لأمثالها في هذا الوطن... وتقرر الرحيل... عن وطن وضع نفسه على فوهة بركان قابل للإنفجار في أي لحظة، بلد ينبذك، يرفضك... كعاشق تتركه لكنك تعود عليه متلهف، مشتاق، فيصفعك من جديد، وتهجر.
