لما كان "العقل السليم في الجسم السليم"، وكانت الفروسية فروسيتان: فروسية العلم والبيان، وفروسية الرمي والطعن والضرب. وكان قد اشتد تعظيم الإسلام وأهله بقلوب المماليك، وثبت تاريخياً أن الرسول- صلى الله عليه وسلم- قد سابق بالأقدام، وبين الإبل، وبين الخيل، وأنه حضر نضال السهام، ورمي بالقوس، وركب الخيل مسرجة ومعراة، وتقلد بالسيف، وصارع، اهتم سلاطين المماليك بتعليم مماليكهم في الطباق فنون الفروسية وبالملاعيب التي تعينهم على ذلك؛ بغرض حماية مصر والشام من الغزو المغولي، وإخراج القوى الصليبية المتبقية في بلاد الشام؛ فأيدهم الله بنصره، فلعبة الكرة والصولجان- المعروفة بالبولو- كانت فارسية الأصل، ولعبة الطبطاب- الطابة- كانت تركية الأصل- وتكمل سابقتها، ولعبة المطرق (التحطيب أو الجريد) كانت مصرية الأصل، ولعبة الكزلك (السيف القصير المكسور الحد أو الخشبي) كانت هندية الأصل، ولعبة الصرع (المصارعة) كانت تركية وعجمية وعربية الأصول، وأنظر بقية الألعاب الرياضية في هذا الكتاب.
