تُعَدُّ المقامات الحريرية من أشهر الكتب الأدبية التي جمعت بين النادرة والنصيحة والتواضع وحُسْن الأدب والفائدة، وكان مؤلفها أبو محمد الحريري على درجة كبيرة من العلم وسعة الإطلاع، وهذه المقامات جمعت ألفاظاً رصينة البناء، واضحة المعنى، وأخرى يتعذّر على بعض الناس إدراك معناها، ومعرفة مغزاهما، لذا بادر كثير من العلماء والأدباء إلى شرحها، وفكِّ مُغلقها.
ويعد شرح أبي البقاء العكبري من أعمّها فائدة، وأكثرها يُسراً، لأنه تناول كلماتها الغامضة وعباراتها النادّة عن الفهم فأتمّ فائدتها بأنْ شرحها، وأوضح معانيها، وأبرز كنوزها، ولم يكتف بذلك بل تعدّاه إلى دراسة بنية بعض الكلمات دراسة تصريفية على قَدْر كبير من الدقّة والضبط.
ولأهمية هذا الشرح، اعتنى به الأستاذ الدكتور "ناصر حسين علي" وإخراجه إلى القراء صحيحاً محققاً تحقيقاً علمياً، لتتم الفائدة منه، ويتيسر الإنتفاع به وكان عمله في الكتاب حيث قدم للشرح وأتبعه بدراسة وافية عن أبي البقاء العكبري، أبرز فيها فأكثره وعرّف المخطوط من مؤلفاته والمطبوع، معتمداً على ما جاء في المصادر والمراجع التي ترجمت له.
