تُحيلنا رواية "سعد السمرمد (تحفة الرمّال / مفقودة ابن زنبل) إلى التاريخ المتخيَّل، والّذي يؤكّد هذا ما ذكره من عبارة (لا تصدّقوا الشخوص، ولا تعتقدوا بهم، بل تقبّلوهم بصفاتهم الرمزيّة والحكائيّة، لأنّهم من صنع الخيال)، من هذا وضعا المؤلّف ضمن دائرة المتخيَّل التاريخيّ، لكنّه بتصفيفه المقولة أكّد على (الرمزيّة والحكائيّة)، بمعنى اتّخذهم رموزاً لواقع قائم ورؤى قارّة للتاريخ المجتمعيّ، ثمّ وفّر لهم مناخ فنَّ الحكاية الّتي حفل بها تراثنا العربيّ، فالتعامل مع التاريخ واحدة من الإشكاليّات التي تبرز في خضمّ كتابة رواية تعتمد على الواقع، ولا تنسخه.
هنا يبرز سؤال: كيف يمكن المساس بالتاريخ، من خلال سرديّة روائيّة، دون الوقوع في حراك نتاج المؤرّخ؟ وللتخلّص من هذا التداخل ينبغي، وفقاً لـ "بول ريكور"، أن نعي أننا نتعامل مع وقائع في زمن، وزمن ينتج حراكاً، من هذا يتوجّب التفكير في خلق الزمن والواقعة من منطلق التخييل.
