كتاب «منتهى السُّول» شرح مؤلفه فيه كتاب «وسائل الوصول إلى شمائل الرَّسول صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم» للشَّيخ يوسف بن إسماعيل النَّبهاني. وقد استغرق في شرحه العظيم هذا قرابة خمس وعشرين سنة، جمع فيه وأوعى. شرح لفظه، وجلَّى معناه، وأوضح مقصوده ومرماه، وذلك بإتمام مباحثه، وتوسيع دائرته، وإضافة فوائد، وتقييد شوارد.
فهو بحقٍّ لم تكتحل أعين أهل زماننا بمثله؛ إذ خلا من الحشو الزَّائد، وجمع ما تطمح إليه نفوس مبتغي الفوائد، مع دقَّة تعبير، وسلامة أُسلوب، وجودة تحقيق بأسلوب لا يقدر عليه في زماننا غيره، وهو أسلوب سبك عبارة المؤلِّف مع الشَّرح في قالب واحد، وكأنَّها كتبت بقلم واحد، ولسان واحد.
ولمَّا كان كتاب « وسائل الوصول إلى شمائل الرَّسول صلَّى الله عليه وآله وسلَّم » من أجلِّ ما أُلِّف في محاسن قطب الوسائل، ومنبع الفضائل، الحائز لكلِّ المفاخر الفاخرة، وسيِّد أهل الدُّنيا والآخرة؛ فإنَّه جَمَعَ شمل شمائل سيِّد الأنام، من متفرِّقات كتب علماء الإسلام، ورتَّبها أحسن ترتيب، ونظمها أحسن نظام، بحيث إنَّ مطالع هذا الكتاب كأنَّه يشاهد طلعة ذلك الجناب، ويرى محاسنه الشَّريفة في كلِّ باب.. دعاني حبُّ سيِّد الأحباب، إلى وضع تعليقات على هذا المجموع المستطاب، تكون مرجعاً لي في تفهُّم عبارته عند إقرائه وقراءته.
