هذا الكتاب نتاج ندوة الشيخ العلّامة سعيد بن مبارك بن جويد الغيلاني (توفي سنة 1389هـ/1969م) والملقب بالصوري نسبة إلى مكان نشأته مدينة صور التي تميزت بالنشاط العلمي والثقافي. طلب العلم، ودرسه في مكة المكرمة بالمدرسة الصولتية، التي تتلمذ فيها على يد العديد من العلماء والمعلمين المعروفين، ثم عاد إلى عُمان ودرّس فيها بمدرسة دار الفلاح (الغزالي)، معلمًا للفقه الإسلامي واللغة العربية، وبعد إغلاق مدرسة دار الفلاح، أنشأ معهدًا للعلوم الدينية بمدينة صور (المدرسة الدينية الصورية)، وبعد هجرته إلى المدينة المنورة قام بالتدريس في الحرم النبوي حتى وفاته، كما كان يمارس التجارة إذ افتتح دكانًا، جعل جزءًا منه مكتبة يبيع فيه الكتب لرواد العلم.
ترك خلفه إرثًا علميًّا وثقافيًّا كبيرًا، إذ ألّف ما يزيد على أربعين مؤلفًا، طُبع منها سبعة كتب، والباقي بقي مخطوطًا. يلقي الكتاب الضوء على سيرة ومسيرة الشيخ الصوري الثريّة بالعلم والمعرفة.
