على الرغم من أن كافة السيناريوهات التي حاولت استشراف مستقبل معالم الظاهرة الصحفية في مصر تكاد تتفق على أن الفترة المقبلة سوف تشهد ازدهارًا للصحافة المتخصصة، بل قدمتها بعض تلك السيناريوهات باعتبارها إحدى وسائل الحفاظ على كيان الصحافة الورقية.
إلا أن هناك مجموعة من المشكلات، والتي تواجه الصحافة المتخصصة في مصر، ومنها التأهيل الأكاديمي والمهني للقائم بالاتصال في هذا النمط من الصحافة، وكذلك المشكلات الخاصة بتوزيعها وتسويقها. ومعنى هذا وجود جدل دائر وآراء متعارضة حول ما سيطرحه المستقبل من فرص أمام ظاهرة الصحافة المتخصصة في مصر خلال السنوات القادمة، فإذا كانت بعض السيناريوهات والتي حاولت استشراف مستقبل الظاهرة الصحفية في مصر بصفة عامة- كما سبق وأن ذكرنا- قد طرحت لنمط الصحافة المتخصصة باعتباره أحد الحلول الرئيسية لعدم اختفاء الصحافة المطبوعة, فإن المشكلات التي تواجه الصحافة المطبوعة بصفة عامة والصحافة المتخصصة على وجه التحديد أدت لأن تتجه بعض الآراء الأخرى على عكس ما تنبأت به سيناريوهات استشراف الظاهرة الصحفية في مصر.
ومن هنا جاءت الحاجة ملحة إلى موضوع هذا الكتاب حيث البحث في مستقبل ظاهرة الصحافة المتخصصة في مصر والتعرف على المسارات المستقبلية التي سوف تتخذها سواء بالازدهار والنمو، أو بالتراجع والتدهور.
