يجد القارئ الكريم بين دفتي هذا الكتاب أعمال ندوة "الدراسات المستقبلية العربية: نحو استراتيجية مشتركة" والتي عقدها المعهد بمدينة القاهرة في الفترة من 14- 16 أبريل/ نيسان 1998. وقد كان دافع المعهد إلى عقد هذه الندوة إحساسه من جانب بأن ثمة متغيرات عاصفة أحدثت تغيرات جذرية في الواقع العربي والبيئة الإقليمية والعالمية المحيطة به، الأمر الذي يطرح أسئلة مشروعة حول نتائج الجهود البحثية السابقة والرائدة في مجال الدراسات المستقبلية العربية.
ومن ناحية أخرى لاحظ المعهد أن الأوضاع الراهنة عالميًا وإقليميًا وعربيًا تحتاج دون شك إلى بذل جهود مضاعفة لمواصلة محاولات استشراف المستقبل العربي في ظل هذه الأوضاع المتغيرة.
