يعلق مؤلف الكتاب على وصية الشيخ العارف بالله أبى إسحاق إبراهيم المتبولي ونصها "عليك أيها الأخ بالاستقامة فى التوبة" ويعرف معنى التوبه ويقول أن الشيخ قد بدأ بها لأنها أساس لكل مقام ترقى فى العبد حتى يموت فكما أن لا أرض له لابناء له كذلك ومن لا توبه له خلال حال له ولا مقام ومن كلامهم من أحكم مقام توبته حفظة الله تعالى من سائر الشوائب التى في الأعمال ثم ينبه المؤلف لمجموعة من الأشكال الفرعية للتوبة مثل أنه ينبغي على العبد أن يفتش أعضاءه الظاهرة والباطنة صباحا ومساءا إن كان حفظ حدود الله تعالى التى حددها لها أو تعدت وتنبيه آخر مثل أنه يجب على من أكل شيئا ثم وجد بعده علامة من علامات الحرام ان يأخذ فى القئ إلى أمكنة وإلا أخذ فى التوبة والاستغفار وتنبيه آخر اذ يقول أنه ينبغي لمن تقل عليه قيام الليل وترادف عليه الكسل ان يفتش نفسه فربما يكون السبب فى ذلك هو وقوعه فى المعاصى الباطنة وغيرها من التنبيهات الأخرى التى تندرج تحت بند التوبة قد لا يكون كل مسلم يعرفها فلا يهتم بها فتكون توبته ناقصة.
