أوله دلع، ووسطه ولع، وآخره هلع.. هكذا الإدمان يبدأ بالنغم، ويتطور بالندم، وينتهي بالعدم.. ظاهره الرحمة، وباطنة العذاب، فرحه دقائق، وترحه سنوات.. أعراضه كثيرة ومتعددة أظهرها الإرتكاس. وما نود التركيز عليه هنا في هذا المؤلف هو الإرتكاس، والذي يهدد كيان المدمن، ويرعبه بصفة دائمة، فهو انذار الفشل لديه، وعلامة العجز عنده، ومؤشر اليأس له، واحيانا يعني له الخوف من الغد.. فالغد عنده قد يتضمن الخوف من الإرتكاس، والقلق المرتبط به، وقد يعني له الإرتكاس في بعض الأحيان الموت وتدل دراسات عديدة لمتابعة ادمان الهيروين أن نسبة الوفاة تتراوح بين (3 -5%) سنوياً.
لذلك هدفت هذه الدراسة تناول موضوع الإرتكاس العقاقيري وتناول مؤشراته، ومثيراته، ومواقفه، وعوامله وذلك لانارة الطريق أمام العاملين في مجالات الإدمان، والإعتماد العقاقيري والكيمائي عن بعض جوانب ذلك العرض المهم من أعراض الإدمان حتى يمكن الوقاية من الإرتكاس على اسس علمية، وبحثية.
