لم تكن تنقصه الإرادة ولكن لم يكن يعرف اي اندفاع جسماني لأن شجاعته الجسدية تنقصه هذا الجسد الذي كان يبدو له إنه لا يلبيه كالحصان الذي أنهكه التعب وأضناه فيرفض الجري والإنطلاق تحت فارسه رغم المهماز الذي ينهزه به صاحبه الفارس الذي يمتطيه. ولكن هذا الجسد كان يثور أحياناً وبإيعاز غير ملموس من لوقا إيعاز خفي سرعان ما يلبيه الجسد ولم تكن تلك الثورة على أشياء ذات قيمة بل هي أمام تلك الأشياء التافهة الواقعة الحدوث كل يوم ولمختلف الناس.
لقد كان لوقا تلك الأيام رهن لوقوع اضرابات عنيفة وطارئة يبدو من خلالها أن جسده الضعيف الواهن يقوم بافناء القوى القليلة الباقية له في نوبات من العصيان والحقد، وكان ذلك العصيان يظهر في أقل الأمور تفاهة في حياته اليومية كنوع من إثبات الذات، كان لوقا يعتقد إن ذلك العالم جميعه قد تكاتف ضده، وإنه يشاكسه، واعتقد انه اصبح عدو المجتمع وأن ذلك المجتمع قد أضرم نيران الحرب عليه حتى وصلت إلى الذروة أثناء الأجازة الصيفية.
