لا شك أن الطبقة العاملة والنقابات العمالية فى مصر لعبت دورًا كبيرًا في الثورة المصرية بدأ بإضراب عمال غزل المحلة عام 2008 إلى المشركة في المظاهرات الحاشدة في 25 يناير 2011 ومن ثم تسعى الدراسة إلى الإجابة على العديد من التساؤلات التي من بينها:
هل تحتاج مصر إلى قانون عمل جديد يراعي كافة التغيرات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية الجديدة في مصر؟ ما هي الآليات التي تسمح بوجود انتخابات للنقابات العمالية وتسمح بوجود قيادات جديدة؟ ما هو الدور التنظيم التقلبي الحالي في حل مشاكل العمال؟ وما هي نوعية المطالب الجديدة التي طرأت على الحياة الجديدة في مصر؟ كيف يمكن تجاوز المشاكل الحالية بين العمال وأصحاب العمل؟ وما الآلية التي لا يمكن عن طريقها إيجاد علاقة عمل عادلة بين الأطراف المختلفة؟ وهل يمكن اعتبار المسئولية الاجتماعية التي تقوم بها بعض رجال الأعمال تجاه المجتمع بديلًا عن حقوق العمال في شركاتهم وأخيرًا؟ ما هي معوقات تأسيس نقابات مستقلة ذات طابع دفاعي عن حقوق العمال؟
كما تسعى الدراسة التي بين أيدينا إلى معرفة إذا كان أسباب خوف رجال الأعمال من النقابات يأتي بمفهوم الخوف على الربح والسعي لزيادته وضمان عدم الإثارة حقوق ومتطلبات العمال وعدم توعبتهم به وهي الأمور التي يجب أن تقوم بها النقابات فإن تخوفات الدولة من نتائج انتخابات العمال للدرجة التي تقوم معها بتحديد المرشحين واستخدام إجراءات معينة وحجبه عن عدد كبير من المرشحين واستخدام أساليب أخرى لتغير نتائج الانتخابات الحقيقية أمر ليس مفهومًا على الإطلاق خاصة وأن الدولة قد خرجت بشكل كبير من دائرة العمل لتصبح حكمًا بين العمال وأصحاب الأعمال وهي بهذا تضع نفسها في خانة الحكم غير المحايد الذي ينحاز لطرف على حساب طرف آخر ومن هنا فإن الحوار والمفاوضة الجماعية يكونان هما السبيل الوحيد لتحقيق الاستقرار للاستثمار من المستثمرين للعمال من خلال تمثيل حقيقي للعمال في نقابات حقيقية وفي المقابل قد يساهم ذلك في قيام النقابة بدورها الحقيقي في تحسين شروط وظروف العمل والتفاوض مع أصحاب الأعمال والذي يعتبر هو الدور الأساسي للنقابات.
