كتاب هندسة الموجات الدقيقة البصريّة، كتابٌ علمي يختصّ بعلمين من علوم الاتصالات والتقنية التي أخذت تتطور بشكل كبير وسريع في الآونة الأخيرة من هنا بدأت تتبلور لديّ فكرة تأليف كتاب أنقل فيه خبرتي العمليّة والتي امتدّت عشرين عاماً في شركات محلّية رائدة تعمل في مجال الاتّصالات بالموجات الدقيقة والبصريّة، حيث عملت هذه الشركات بتوريد تقنيات حديثة ومُتطوّرة عبر شركات عالميّة، كما أنّ قلّة الاصدارات باللغة العربيّة شجّعتني على كتابة هذا العمل وصياغته بطريقة مُبسّطة للاستفادة منه من قبل البّحاث والمهتمّين بهذه العلوم.
تم ّ تقسيم الكتاب إلى جزأين أساسيّين كل جزء به ستة أبواب عنوان الجزء الأوّل: مدخل عام للموجات الدقيقة والبصريّة وخطوط نقلهما.
عنوان الجزء الثاني: مُكوّنات الموجات الدقيقة والبصريّة وأنظمة نقلهما.
سيتم التركيز في هذا الكتاب على أنظمة الاتصالات ومُكوّناتها التي تعمل في نطاق ترددات الموجات الدقيقة والضوئيّة، تناولنا في هذا الجزء مدخل عام للموجات الدقيقة والبصريّة وخطوط نقلهما، وسنتناول في الجزء القادم من الكتاب الطريقة التي يتم بها تصميم نظام الألياف البصريّة ذو المسافات الطويلة المُستخدم في نقل المكالمات الهاتفيّة والبيانات (long-haul optical fiber communication system) ومقارنته بالنظام المستخدم بتقنية الموجات الدقيقة، كما سيتم توضيح كيفية الاستفادة من هذه الأنظمة في بناء شبكات نقل البيانات الحديثة التي تُعرف بشبكات الجيل القادم (Next Generation Networks)، حيث بدأت هذه الشّبكات تحلّ محلّ الشبكات الرقميّة.
