يعرض هذا الكتاب تصوراً عن بعض الجوانب الإجتماعية في حياة الأسرة.
وينطلق الكتاب من مجموعة من المسلمات, المسلمة الأولي أن الأسرة كوحدة إجتماعية مكون أساسي في جميع المجتمعات البشرية المعروفة علي أمتداد عصور التاريخ البشري وعلي أتساع الكرة الأرضية وما كان للأسرة أن تحظي بهذا القدر من العمومية والأستمرار ما لم تكن تؤدي دوراً أساسياً في المجتمعات البشرية.
والمسلمة الثانية أن العصر الحديث شهد تغيرات وأحداث كثيرة كان لها تأثير معاكس علي الأسرة.
وأنتشرت في الأسر ظواهر إجتماعية نراها غير مرغوبة.
ولهذا فإن علي وجه الظواهر الإجتماعية المعاندة.
والمسلمة الثالثة أنه لا يوجد في الفكر الإنساني تصور لكيان إجتماعي يمكن أن يحل محل الأسرة إذا قدر لها أن تتضاءل أو تنهار.
وبالتالي فإن أنهيار الأسرة يعتبر إيذانا بأنهيار المجتمعات البشرية ذاتها.
وهذا خطر ينبغي تجنبه ومصير يجب تفاديه بكل السبل الممكنة.
المسلمة الرابعة أن الظروف الإجتماعية المعاصرة لم تعد تسمح للأسر بإعداد أبنائها جيداً للقيام بالأدوار الأسرية التي يستلزمها تكوين أسر خاصة بهم في المستقبل.
ومن هنا فإن المقبلين علي تكوين أسر جديدة بالزواج يحتاجون إلي نوع من التربية الأسرية - أو الثقافة الأسرية - تعينهم علي أداء أدوارهم المستقبلية
