هذا الكتاب هو الترجمة العربية عن رحلة قام بها المستشرق الألماني يوليوس أويتنج إلى شمال الجزيرة العربية عام 1883-1884 التي تمكن خلالها من زيارة مناطق عديدة في تلك الناحية وينقل من خلالها صورة اتسمت بدقة الملاحظة وعمق الرؤيا عن الأوضاع الإجتماعبة والإقتصادية السائدة فيها آنذاك. إضافة إلى معلومات نادرة عن تاريخ وجغرافية تلك البلاد وأحوالها السياسية.
يعد هذا الكتاب أول ترجمة عربية ليوميات رحلة المستشرق الألماني (يوليس أويتنج) إلى الجزيرة العربية التي بدأت بوصوله إلى (كاف) في 10سبتمبر عام1883م وانتهت بمغادرته ميناء (الوجه) في يوم 14 أبريل1884م. وقد زاد الرحالة العديد من الأماكن منها كاف، والجوف، وحائل وتيماء، وتبوك، والحجر" مدائن صالح" والعلا، وتلقى هذه الرحلة الضوء على جوانب متعددة من تاريخ هذا الجزء من الجزيرة العربية والحياة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية السائدة في ذلك الوقت.
