ندرس التاريخ أحداثا وأسبابا ونتائجا وفي خضم دراساته وسجلاته ننسى أن من نقرأ عنهم كانوا يوما بشرا يعيشون حياتهم بكل تفاصيلها التى غابت عن أذهاننا.. فكانوا أطفالا وشبابا وكهولا.. يحلمون بالمستقبل ويواجهون الحز وتهزمهم الشيخوخة كما يهزمهم الأعداء .. هذا هو ما لم تنساه السيدة ( نيفين يسري) عندما كتبت روايتها التاريخية التى بين يدينا عن الشخصية التى يصعب ان تتكرر مرة أخرى " محمد على باشا الكبير" فلم تسجل احداثا تاريخية جامدة خالية من الحياة ، وإنما رسمت الأشخاص كما هم وكانوا .. فرأينا من خلال صفحات كتابها ( محمد على باشا) وهو طفلا حلمت امه بمجده في رؤيا ثم وهو صبيا يتيما وشابا يافعا وهكذا حتى نصل إلى محطاته الخيرة في المجد والحيا. إنها رواية تكونت من ستة عشر فصلا فكان كل منهم أروع من الآخر.. إنها رواية أهدت إلينا التاريخ وهو ينبض بالحياة والبشر وأيضا .. الأحداث.
في أسلوب سهل ومؤثر تعيد المؤلفة تصوير الحياة ما بين 1768 و 1849 عن طريق إعادة إحياء الشخصيات التى تكون نسيج هذه الرواية للسيرة المثيرة لمحمد على باشا الكبير وتقدم الوقائع التاريخية في إيجاز مشوق يجعل القارئ متلهفا إلى معرفة باقي الموضوع. ويكشف الكتاب - المزود باكثر من 200 صورة- عن عصر قد زال وأصبح نادرا ما يعرف عن عقليته وعاداته وتقاليده حيث تنقل الكاتبة القارئ من الصراع في مصر إلى خبايا سراى السلطان العثماني في إسطنبول وترفع الحجاب عن تلك الدولة داخل الدولة - وهو الحرملك- بغموضه وقوانينه الخاصة.
