تحتل الجوانب الإقتصادية والمالية أهمية بالغة في المجتمع الإسلامي. من هذا المنطلق انبرى الكثير من العلماء والفقهاء لتصنيف الكتب والدراسات المتخصصة منها في هذا المجال، لبيان وإبراز النهج الإقتصادي الإسلامي، وتجديد ملامحه ، وبيان قواعد وأصوله التي تستند إلى كتاب الله سبحانه وتعالى، والسنّة النبوية المطهّرة، وآثار الصحابة رضي الله عنهم، والتطبيقات الإقتصادية في عصر الرسالة والخلافة الراشدة وما تلاها من المراحل التاريخية.
ويعد كتاب (المبسوط) للإمام السرخسي – موضوع هذه الدراسة – واحد من هذه المصنفات والتآليف التي عالجت إلى جانب المسائل الفقهية القضايا الإقتصادية والمالية، والتي شغلت الكثير من أجزاء الكتاب الثلاثين، ولما يمثله هذا الكتاب من مرحلة متقدمة في تطور المجتمع الإسلامي. فكان أحد دواعي اختيار الدكتور صلاح الدين العكيدي للدراسة في خص (الجوانب الإقتصادية والمالية) مع المقارنة بين رأي السرخسي والموازنة بينها وبين آراء العلماء والفقهاء من المذاهب الأخرى من الذين سبقوه، ومن الذين عاصروه، ومن الذين جاؤوا من بعده، وذلك مع الأخذ بعين الإعتبار المصادر من كافة الكتب أي كتب الفقه الحنبلي، الفقه الزيدي، الفقه المالكي وغيرها من الكتب اللغة والجغرافيا مثل كتاب (صورة الأرض لابن حوقل)، وكتاب (أحسن التقاسيم في معرفة الأقاليم) للمقدسي.
اشتملت الدراسة على ثمانية فصول تضمنت آراء الإمام السرخسي في عشور الزرع ومصارف الصدقات، وزكاة الزروع والثمار، وأنواع الأراضي التي خضعت للدولة الإسلامية ... ثم آراءه في الغنيمة وبيان أقسامها، إلى آخر ذلك من أحكام المزارعة والمساقاة، والمعاملات المالية، والبيوع وأنواعها، وتعريف الربا وبيان أدلة تحريمه وأنواعه، والأصناف الربوية؛ وكذلك التعريف بالسلم وبيان مشروعيته وشرائطه، والإستصناع وشرائطه وحكمه.
