شاعت فى شعرنا العربى المعاصر ظاهرة استخدام الأسطورة.. فما يكاد ديوان يخلو من الإشارات والرموز الأسطورية، لذلك اخترت هذا البحث على صعوبته، لجدته، وقلة من كتبوا فيه شذرات متفرقة، وقد حاولت فى هذا البحث، أن أقيم كياناً علمياً موحداً لمجموعة من الظواهر الفنية المتناثرة فى عشرات الدواوين الشعرية التى تنتمى إلى شعراء من كافة الاتجاهات الأدبية التى شهدتها حياتنا العربية منذ فجر النهضة.
وكان من أهم غاياتى أن يكون هذا البحث أول دراسة تضع ظاهرة استخدام الأسطورة فى الشعر العربى المعاصر فى ضوء مصادرها، والمؤثرات الأجنبية فى الاعتماد عليها، فى الأبنية الفنية المختلفة، قصيدة، ومسرحية، ومطولة شعرية، والمنهج الذى اتبعته فى هذه الدراسة هو المنهج الذى أوثره دائماً فى دراسة "ظاهرة أدبية".. ويتمثل فى: إصطفاء "النص الأدبى".. فإن ما دون الجودة الفنية لا يستحق عناء الالتفات، تحليله وتفسيره.. فى ضوء النتاج الأدبى العام، وفى ضوء الخصائص الذاتية لهذا النص.. مع عدم إغفال ما يفيد هذا النص -فى استيعابنا له- من إلمام بحياة الشاعر وعصره وظروفه الاجتماعية ومشكلاته النفسية.. وغير ذلك.
وقد رأينا لزاماً أن نمهد للبحث باستخلاص مصطلح نقدى للأسطورة.. من بين كثير من الاستخدامات غير الدقيقة.. ثم بحثنا فى الفصل الأول أصل الأسطورة ووجهة نظر المدارس الفكرية المختلفة فيها، ثم خصائصها التعبيرية وصلاتها بالشعر، ومعنى العودة -فى عصر العلم- إليها.. ثم فى الفصل الثانى بحثنا عن سوابق الظاهرة فى شعرنا العربى القديم، ليتم بذلك ربط حاضر الظاهرة بماضيها فى شعرنا، وانتقلنا فى الفصل الثالث إلى دراسة مصادرها وفى الرابع المؤثرات الأجنبية فى استخدامها.. وآثار الرومانتيكية والرمزية واليوت فى توجيه شعرائنا نحو هذا السبيل.. ثم خلصنا فى الفصول التالية إلى بحث تطبيقى واسع محاولين أن نرصد الظاهرة فى القصيدة والمسرحية والمطولة الشعرية.. محاولين فى كل خطوة من خطوات الدراسة أن نكون على صلة بأمهات مصادرها ومراجعها، باذلين فى ذلك أقصى الغايات..
