وفي ضوء ذلك فإن دراسة الفريق الرياضي وسيكولوجيته تحتل أهمية واضحة في علم النفس الرياضي، ومما لا شك فيه أن بحوث ودراسات علم الإجتماع وعلم النفس الإجتماعي قد أسهمت بقدر وافر في توجيه الباحثين في مجال علم النفس الرياضي لإثراء المعارف النفسية، الإجتماعية في علم النفس الرياضي وبصفة خاصة في ما يرتبط بسيكولوجية الفريق الرياضي.
كما يختص علم الإنتقاء الرياضي في إختيار الفرد الرياضي المناسب في مكانه الصحيح في اللعبة التي تناسبه، كذلك فالمدرب المناسب في مكانه الصحيح يرفع من قدر الفريق ويساهم بفاعلية في إنتقاء أفراده مما يسهم إيجاباً على الظهور الجيد والبناء المتماسك للفريق الرياضي.
