وتكتسب الوقاية في المجال الرياضي أهمية كبيرة ، إذ يسعى اللاعبون بشكل دائم مواصلة ألعابهم وفعالياتهم لتحقيق مستوى أعلى من الإنجاز ، فيما تحد الإصابة والمضاعفات الناتجة عنها من طموحاتهم وآمالهم ، لذلك فإن الجانب الوقائي يكتسب أهمية كبيرة لدى هؤلاء اللاعبين لاسيما وأن الممارسة الرياضية وظروفها من احتكاك مستمر وتصادم يزيد من مستوى الإصابة ، فضلاً عن أن استعمال الأجهزة والأدوات الرياضية تشكل خطراً آخر عليهم ، ومن الإصابات المهمة التي تحدث في مفاصل الرسغ والمرفق ، هي تمزق الأربطة المحيطة به وتمزق العضلات والإلتواء ، فضلاً عن كسور العظام المحيطة به .
