تساهم الوراثة الكمية فى تحديد نسبة التأثير التجمعى، وغير التجمعى، والبيئى، وكذلك التداخل بينها فى تقييم الحيوان، وتحديد كفائته للصفات الإنتاجية، والفيسولوجية، والمقاومة المرضية.
وللإحصاء الوراثى دورا أساسيا فى علم الجينوم لان العينة العشوائية والخطأ التجريبى موجودا دائما فى أبحاث الجينوتيب ويعتمد التقييم الوراثى للحيوانات على تحليل البيانات التى تتوافر فى مظهر الصفة، إى معلومات فى سجلات الحيوان الروتينية، وكذلك معلومات عن الجينات فى مواقع الصفات الكمية على الكروموسومات.
وكان التقدم فى علم البرمجة واكتشاف حسابات آلية ذات ذاكرة كبيرة وسرعات فائقة اثر فى التقدم فى تحديد الجينوتيب، وذلك بإيجاد بيانات محاكاة لكثير من نظم التزاوج، ونظم تربية الحيوان.
وتحديد الجينات فى مواقع الصفات الكمية غير معروفا لكثير من الصفات والتى تهم مربى الحيوان، لذلك كان من الضرورى البحث عن جينات مرتبطة معها، وقريبة منها على نفس الكروموسوم والتى منها يمكن الاستدلال على تلك المواقع.
ويتناول هذا الكتاب دور الماركر الوراثى كأحد فروع التحليل الجينومى والذى تساعد فى تحديد مواقع الصفات الكمية، والذى تلاه مباشرة معرفة افضل طرق الانتخاب للحيوانات الممتازة فى برامج تربية الحيوان. كما يتناول الكتاب أيضا كيفية عمل المزيج من افرع العلوم السابق ذكرها فى طرق استخدام الماركر الوراثى، وطرق تحديد مواقع الصفات الكمية، ومعرفة تأثيرها، وتحديد كمية هذا التأثير فى برامج التحسين الوراثى للحيوان.
