لقد واجه مؤلف هذا الكتاب حياة عصيبة رهيبة فلم يستقر ولم يهنا بالا فى وطن مستقل مستقر فمنذ ان كان طفلا وهو يعانى الهجمات العسكرية على القاهرة ويسمع اخبار الحرب العالمية ومآسيها وتمر عليه الحروب حتى تمر عليه حروب عدة من الاحتلال والنصر والهزيمة ثم النصر ثم انتقالات الى عواصم عربيه كبغداد والتى حارب فيها ضد الأكراد ثم الى بيروت حيث احتلت اسرائيل العاصمة ومنها الى دمشق فقرر المؤلف ان يؤلف كتابا عن حرب اكتوبر والسينما عن السلم والحرب والسينما التسجيلية المصرية منذ عام 1956 حتى عام 1976 وقد حاول ان يربط الماضى بالحاضر لاستكشاف مستقبل السينما التسجيلية فى مصر
