يعد كلاوس برينكر علما ً من أعلام البحث في علم لغة النص؛ فقد أسهم منذ السبعينات، وهي بداية الفترة التي وضعت فيها اسس علم جديد، اكتملت ملامحه، ونضجت تصوراته، بحيث صار علماً مستقلاً من أهم علوم اللغة- أسهم بعدد كبير من البحوث الرائدة الجوهرية العميقة فيه، مما جعله مرجعاً أساسياً في هذا التوجه المتميز في بحث اللغة.
وكان من كتبه التي رجعت إليها فيما بعد في دراسات تالية للعمل الأول ذلك الكتاب الذي أقدمه مترجماً للقارئ الكريم: التحليل اللغوي للنص، الذي صدر سنة 1985م، وهو برغم صغر حجمه في طبعته الأولي احتوى علي آراء مفيدة للغاية، شديدة الوضوح والسلاسة، وهذه سمة أساسية في كتاباته، حيث يجعل اللغة عائقاً دون فهم أفكاره بصياغة جمل مركبة ممتدة، تحتمل عدة معان.
ويتعلق الكتاب في المقام الأول بالمفاهيم والمناهج، فقد رأى أن التحليل اللغوي للنص يستهدف جعل البنية "أى البناء النحوي والموضوعي" والوظيفة الاتصالية لنصوص محددة، شفافة، ويستهدف كذلك وصفهما علي نحو يمكن التحقق منه. ويمكنه من خلال ذلك أن يوفر أو يطرح نظرات عميقة في التماسك القاعدى لبناء النص "أى تكوينه" وفهمه "أى تلقيه"، وأن يسهم كذلك في فهم الكفاءة النصية الخاصة، ولا يخفى علي القارئ الكريم حين يطالع أجزاء الكتاب بروية وإمعان أنه قد أعطى للدوء التواصلي في تفسير النصوص دوراً محورياً، يوجه بناءها النحوى والموضوعى، معتمداً في ذلك علي المعطيات الحديثة في نظرية التواصل، والإضافات المؤخرة إلي نظرية الفعل الكلامي.
وقد قسم المؤلف كتابه أربعة فصول بخلاف التمهيد الذي عرض فيه مفهومه للتحليل اللغوي للنص، والمهمة الأساسية لعلم لغة النص، وهدفه من تأليف الكتاب، وإيضاحه لعدم إمكان الفصل بين بنية النص ووظيفته إلا لدواعى التحليل.
والأربعة فصول هي: "الفصل الأول تناول المؤلف مفهوم النص، الفصل الثاني تحليل بنية النص، الفصل الثالث تحليل وظيفة النص، الفصل الرابع تحليل أنواع نصية".
